Dr. Perdita Phillips – Now showing at POP . A Frematle, Perth WA based artist exhibiting in the  Animal, People, a Shared Environment – An Exhibition

Perdita has been posting the mail art piece Compose/Decompose to POP for  the Animals, People – A Shared Environment – an exhibition as part of the Australian Animal Study Group 2011 conference exhibition exhibiting local, national and international artists at  POP and QCA Project Gallery space in Brisbane. There are 20 cards that have been left to snails to write their own mail..At the end of the show, we will be able to read the message from the text that the snails have rendered.
Perdy has also had other works in her Compose/Decompose work.  At POP, in the installation room there is a  sound installation The World has No Shortage of Things where in one earphone you hear a human voice component and in the other  ear is the call of a bower bird.. The expected cacophony isn’t the case, unexpectedly it is an apparent Other language that is strangely annoying but also compelling you to re-listen and evaluate what you are hearing as another language…A contemporary hybrid language.
And also thanks to Perdita there is the  mysterious noises of the bower bird call that at times simply sneaks into audio range, with no equipment to be seen and with an element of surprise, the patron, although frontally viewing the bustling Ipswich Road can be taken into the green lush forest to listen to the beautiful sounds of birds in their natural habitat, while we sit in ours.  I like to sit with my eyes closed and be transferred into another realm, to a place that i have been longing to go for some time…and that is out of the city to a place where Perdita clearly knows all about.
