REMY BOCCALATTE – Scisssors, Paper, Rock . . . . .

REMY BOCCALATTE….

                       ….SCISSORS, PAPER,  ROCK……

Remy’s art practice is an autobiographical journey of his travels and times of his life that are so inherent and so valuable to his memories, he easily transcribes them onto paper, crafts them into stone or cuts the paper to collage..Above we can see and experience every feather in sculptured detail from whole soapstones with illustrations supporting the sculptures on a table in the main gallery at POP.

From Rock above, we see scissors and paper below, as Remy renders familiar Japanese motifs and landscapes  from memories and journal sketches from  his two year residency in Japan. From his personal collection of beautiful papers from Japan, Remy cuts, folds, glues and like origami, sculpts these papers to collate a rendition of memorable and captivating land and sky scapes he experienced in his travels around Japan.
From Rock  to Scissors  to Paper as the title suggests….  Below are several series of intimate detailed drawings drafted on to the fine papers sourced from Remy’s travels to South America.  These handcrafted papers have the classic tinge and texture of banana pulp paper which supplies an excellent ground for Remy’s detailed pen and ink drawings of Peru, Bolivia and Columbia and Guatemala . With an eye and draftsmanship for detail and scale, these drawings gravitate you closer and closer inward for inspection where Remy shares his emotion, his keen eye and skill to render the different angles and perspectives he enjoyed to view these unique towns and cities, architecture and natural spaces from and of which he so generously shares with us in the imagery.
